Gratitude Corner – October Edition

Gratitude Corner: Gala Joy & Giving Hearts

We’re still smiling from ear to ear! Our 8th Annual Boots & BBQ Fall Gala was a night to remember—full of laughter, love, and the kind of community spirit that makes Runnin’ Free Ranch feel like home.

From the auction tables to the dance floor, every detail was a blessing. The BBQ was mouthwatering, the testimonies were soul-stirring, and the décor? Absolutely perfect. We’re especially grateful to Starbucks and Nothing Bundt Cakes for adding sweet touches to the evening—and to every family, friend, and local business who came out to “boots and BBQ” with us. You made it magical.

We couldn’t have done it without our generous sponsors and donors. Your support fuels the mission—keeping the lights on, the horses fed, and the healing sessions running for first responders, veterans, and youth who need a safe place to land.

A Special Invitation Right now, we’re praying to grow our circle of recurring donors. We currently have 20 faithful monthly givers—and our goal is to reach 30 by year’s end. These monthly gifts make a world of difference in sustaining the ranch’s work.

Is God tugging at your heart? Could it be you?

We ask that you prayerfully consider joining us as a recurring donor. Every gift, every prayer, every act of kindness helps us bring hope and healing to those who need it most.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. We’re so grateful to walk this journey with you.

Off the Hoof: With love from Zeke, your old soul in a horse suit

Some folks say horses don’t talk. I say they’re just not listening.

The other day, I was mid-munch—hay in my mouth, sun on my back—when a young woman came into the pasture with Amy and Caitlin. I could feel her heart before she said a word. Heavy. Hesitant. Hopeful.

Amy and Caitlin were working with her on something mighty important: learning to ask for what she needs. Not hinting. Not hoping someone reads her mind. Just asking. Simple, right? Not always.

They encouraged her to ask me for my attention. But instead of a clear ask, she looked at me and said, “Zeke wants to eat hay. I hate to interrupt and bother him. I’ll leave him alone.”

Now, I’ve got hay 24/7. I’m not hurting for snacks. But I didn’t move. Not because I didn’t care—but because it was unclear to me what she was asking, if anything. Her voice was soft, unsure, almost apologetic. I’ve heard that tone before. It’s the sound of someone who’s been let down too many times.

Amy gently reminded her: “It’s okay to ask him.”

So she tried again. This time, with a little more strength. A little more belief that maybe—just maybe—her needs mattered. And that’s when I knew. She wasn’t just asking for me. She was asking to be seen.

So I walked over. Not in a rush. Just steady and sure. I stood beside her, breathed with her, and stayed. Because when someone finds the courage to ask, they deserve to be met.

Amy and Caitlin told her something I hope she never forgets: Asking for what you need is part of a healthy relationship. Her needs are legitimate. Her voice matters.

I stayed a while longer, just to make sure she felt that truth in her bones.

Until next time,

Zeke
